SITUATIONAL ANALYSIS
SDDF a non-profit organization established in 2014 to become a vehicle to accelerate academic achievement of deaf learners to ensure that this marginalised sector is afforded equal opportunity. The current education system was too limiting to the deaf community with no institutions of higher learning catering for the deaf and due to current system the deaf learners were forced into trades.
ACTION TAKEN
A group of parents from the deaf community decided to mobilize themselves and present a petition of Grievance to SA Parliament detailing the challenges faced by them as parents of deaf learners and pleaded for upgrading of local school to Grade 12 as the felt that their children were academic capable. Later Dominican School for the Deaf Children at Wittebome also upgraded to Grade 12 in 2015.

A gap was identified and most of the learners were dropouts after Grade 10 as this exacerbated by lack of institution of higher learning their academic capabilities were limited and were also affected by Juvenile delinquencies like:
- Teenage pregnancy
- Increase child headed families
- High exposure to HIV/AIDS
- Lack of exposure to training and development
TEENAGE PREGNANCY
INCREASE CHILD HEADED FAMILIES
HIGH EXPOSURE TO HIV/AIDS
LACK OF EXPOSURE TO TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT
